All students joining Year 7 need to pass the 11+, which is taken in Year 6 and administered by Wirral Local Authority. For further information, please visit the Wirral school application hub using the link below.
All students, both local and those living outside of the area, will take the tests at one of the Grammar schools based in Wirral. An Assessment Request Form will need to be completed and the deadline is 31 May of Year 5. The form is available from 1 May on-line at www.wirral.gov.uk/schooladmissions
This is required to ensure that the correct number of test papers are ordered. Following the results of the 11+ and by 31 October of Year 6 if you live within Wirral Borough Council Local Authority region: complete a Wirral Parental Preference Form. This can be completed on-line via Wirral Borough Council’s website:
You will need to place Wirral Grammar School for Girls as your preference on your home Local Authority admissions form.
If applying from Liverpool or Cheshire, you should obtain a preference form from the primary school or your Local Authority.
Following the results of the 11+ and by 31 October of Year 6, if you live outside Wirral Borough Council Local Authority region, if you want your child/ward to be considered for a place here you need to contact your Local Authority and complete an application following their procedures, this will then be sent to Wirral Local Authority. If you live outside England, e.g. in Wales you will need to apply online and complete a Wirral Parental Preference Form at www.wirral.gov.uk/schooladmissions
You will need to place Wirral Grammar School for Girls as your first preference on your home Local Authority admissions form.
You will be notified of the choice of secondary school on 1st March. This is the same for both Wirral and Cheshire residents.

If you have been offered a place at Wirral Grammar School for your daughter for September we will contact you with details of arrangements for our Welcome Evening in the Summer Term.
If your daughter took the test, achieved the standard for the Grammar School but you have been allocated another school, this will be because you made that school a higher preference OR because the school is full after the admission criteria have been applied. If you wish to appeal, please follow the link under the appeals section.
To apply for assessment in Years 7 – 9 please complete an ‘In Year Transfer for Secondary aged children’ form from Wirral Borough Council. Please contact the school for information regarding the assessment process.
